Paleontology and Geology of the American West
Brooklyn College ANTH 3015
Description: Discover first hand how the Rocky Mountains of the American west have changed from vast seas to tropical forests, and finally into the highest mountains in the United States. At the same time, observe the rugged natural beauty of the west, from which native Americans, frontier people, artists and more have found inspiration and meaning. Camp in the badlands for two weeks excavating and prospecting for 65-55 million year old fossils of our most ancient ancestors. Learn about their lives and how their fate was tied to the changing world they lived in. Better understand how the human race came to be and how our dependence on the land has determined and continues to determine our fate as a species. RIght: tooth of an Eocene carnivore , Didymictis |
